BAA plc
Through its own charity, BAA Communities Trust, BAA plc supports do-it.org.uk and benefits from YouthNets expert support for their highly successful employee volunteering programme.
In 2005 BAA Communities Trust committed a total of £75,000 over three years to support do-it.org.uk. Since then, we have been working in partnership to maximise the success of BAA's employee volunteering programme, i-volunteer. i-volunteer aims to promote the benefits of employee volunteering and to make it as easy as possible for BAA employees to give their time to community projects in their area. A good geographical spread of volunteering opportunities is particularly important to BAA because they operate from seven airports and a range of locations across the UK.
YouthNet's support for BAA's i-volunteer programme is wide-ranging and tailored to their specific needs. We work with them to develop ideas on how best to promote i-volunteer across all BAA offices and airports, and supply the do-it.org.uk database of volunteering opportunities directly to all BAA staff. This means that BAA employees can instantly search for a volunteering role in their community from our database of over 800,000 opportunities. In addition, YouthNet's volunteering experts ensure that the team at BAA are always up-to-speed with developments in the volunteering world as and when they happen.
Employee volunteering - do-it with YouthNet
YouthNet's Chairman Martyn Lewis CBE presenting BAA's i-Volunteer Awards 2006.A successful employee volunteering programme can help enhance your company's:
- external reputation and credibility;
- ability to recruit and retain staff;
- internal morale and productivity;
- training and development programme.
YouthNet can support and enhance employee volunteering programmes by:
- supplying do-it.org.uk's 700,000 volunteering opportunities directly to corporate intranet sites or websites, enabling employees to find short, medium or long-term volunteering opportunities at the click of a mouse;
- providing detailed reports on the take-up and success of volunteering programmes;
- communicating the most up-to-date information on the volunteering world, including articles for intranet or websites;
- developing creative ideas for motivating employees to get involved in volunteering.
After a successful year of promoting employee volunteering within the business, BAA's 2006 i-volunteer awards were a great success, with a massive 70% increase in applications. The result was a fantastic awards ceremony, hosted by YouthNet's Founder and Chair Martyn Lewis CBE that celebrated the many inspirational stories of community involvement from BAA employees across the UK.
BAA plc says:
"The donation is a reflection of our company's commitment to giving something back to the community. The service YouthNet provides is key to the way that we inspire our staff - located at airports around the UK - to volunteer. We encourage our employees to access do-it.org.uk through the BAA intranet and by doing so they make a tangible difference to the communities where they live and work."
