Big Lottery Fund – BASIS programme

The Big Lottery Fund has awarded YouthNet a grant of £20,870 to prepare and submit a full application to its Building and Sustaining Infrastructure Services (BASIS) programme. YouthNet's project is one of 204 that have been short-listed for consideration.

BASIS is the first Big Lottery Fund programme to focus solely on developing voluntary and community sector infrastructure. The scheme aims to build a more expert, consistently available and sustainable set of support services for front line voluntary and community organisations across England.

YouthNet's project focuses on building the technological infrastructure to support volunteer-involving organisations in England. The charity's National Volunteering Database currently provides a wealth of volunteering information and opportunities through partnerships with over 400 organisations in the voluntary and community sector (VCS). Through technology, customer care and influence, YouthNet will extend this work so that VCS organisations will have improved knowledge, skills, opportunity and support to involve volunteers in their work.

Big Lottery Fund – our existing partnership

YouthNet's partnership with Big Lottery Fund began in 2002 when they awarded major support for the pilot of our askTheSite service, enabling us to create and develop the best possible tailored question and answer service for young people. Since then, the Big Lottery Fund has continued to help YouthNet keep up with the times and lead the sector into the future. In 2005, a development grant of £500,000 was awarded until 2008 towards extending TheSite.org services onto mobile phones, and training young people to become online peer advisors. The Big Lottery Fund's major investment in YouthNet over a six-year period is enabling TheSite.org to support the UK's young people in groundbreaking ways. It helps us to provide the very best advice and information via mobiles and TV and to train young people to help each other.
