do-it.org.uk

do-it.org.uk is the number one website for any young person looking for a volunteering opportunity.

Launched in 2001, do-it.org.uk is the most diverse and comprehensive national database of volunteering opportunities in the UK. Each month, do-it.org.uk attracts an average of 50,000 visitors. Of these, 6,000 people go on to register for at least one of the opportunities listed.

Our research shows that young people take up volunteering opportunities for three key reasons: to develop new skills; to gain work experience; and to support their community. do-it.org.uk provides details of 800,000 opportunities to volunteer throughout the UK, any of which can be found with a simple postcode search.

On 9 July 2008, do-it.org.uk was named the winner of the Open Internet category of the Nominet Best Practice Challenge, at a ceremony held at the Science Museum.

Judges said that do-it.org.uk 'takes access to the Internet to another level and connects people who need help with people who want to help them.'

Opportunities from everywhere

The opportunities are provided by over 360 Volunteer Centres in England and more than 40 national charities. The opportunities are managed at a local level and kept up-to-date using bespoke software - developed by YouthNet - called V-Base. Popular and easy to use, many other organisations involved with volunteers and volunteering opportunities have chosen V-Base to manage their own volunteers and opportunities. We have also developed volunteering management software that allows volunteer involving organisations with a national presence to input their volunteering opportunities directly into do-it.org.uk.

"Our research shows that young people take up volunteering opportunities to develop new skills, gain work experience and support their community."

Beyond do-it.org.uk

In addition, we provide our database of volunteering opportunities via an XML feed to partners who can display them on their own sites, in their own 'look and feel'. The number of XML partners we work with has grown to 28 and includes: Marie Curie Cancer Care; DirectGov; The National Trust; Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), London 2012 in partnership with TimeBank; and The Mentoring and Befriending Foundation. The database can also be searched, and volunteering opportunities applied for, on TV by using red button technology on the Community Channel.

The do-it.org.uk database is the perfect choice for any company looking to expand its employee volunteering scheme, and we are always happy to discuss opportunities for partnership.
